A semi was blown off the road during last night’s heavy storms on Interstate 70 near the Altamont exit. Illinois State Police reports indicate a 2016 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer driven by Magnus Hammond of Stamford, Connecticut was traveling westbound on I-70 at milepost 82 during the severe thunderstorm. The driver stated that he was traveling at a low rate of speed due to the heavy rain when the wind started to blow. The wind turned his truck tractor semi-trailer over onto the driver’s side into the left lane of traffic. Interstate 70 westbound was closed temporarily and traffic rerouted for a time onto U.S. Route 40.
