(Springfield, IL) — State lawmakers from both parties today approved spending 600-million-dollars to keep the public universities and colleges open throughout the summer. The compromise bill almost died until Democrats backed off plans to add social services funding to the measure. Governor Rauner has indicated he’ll sign the stopgap bill which provides a percentage of the funding that schools normally get in a year, plus money for the MAP tuition grant program for low-income students.
