A break from the rain gave farmers some time in the fields and helped crops make some nice progress this past week. With more than five days suitable for fieldwork, farmers had time to continue harvesting with 95 percent of winter wheat out of the ground and 52 percent of oats harvested. State Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener updates us on the corn crop.
72 percent of soybeans are blooming and 31 percent are setting pods. Average statewide topsoil moisture declined a bit and is now 3 percent short, 67 percent adequate and 30 percent surplus.
