(Springfield, IL) — State Treasurer Michael Frerichs is suing Sprint for not paying thousands of customers some two-point-seven-million-dollars in rebates. The suit claims the phone company and its partner kept the rebates of about 32-thousand customers between 2003 and 2005, rather than distributing checks to them. Frerichs says the un-sent checks became unclaimed property after five years and as such have to be surrendered to the state treasury.
