The mother of an infant who suffered serious injuries was arrested today and transported back to Fayette County. Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray says that 23 year old Aubree Hammer of Vandalia was arrested by the Granite City Police Department today and transported back to the Fayette County Jail on the warrant for aggravated battery to a child with great bodily harm or permanent disability. Bond is set at one million dollars.
The arrest stems from the injuries to the child that are said to have occurred last month. In an earlier release it stated “On Thursday February 18th, 2016 at 2:01pm Officers responded to a medical facility in Vandalia in reference to possible child abuse. The child in question is 3 ½ months old. The child was transported to the Fayette County Hospital for treatment. Due to the seriousness of the injuries to the child we activated the Illinois Child Death Task Force. The Vandalia Police Department and the Child Death Investigation Task Force are actively investigating the incident.” No update has yet been given on the condition of the infant. It was stated in a later release that the infant child’s mother is Aubree Hammer—and a warrant had earlier been issued for her arrest.
