(Springfield, IL) — A move to reopen the shuttered Illinois State Museum quickly has failed after the Illinois Senate failed to override Governor Rauner’s changes to a bipartisan bill. The museum and its satellites have been closed for four months because of the budget impasse and the original bill would have provided funds to reopen them. Rauner made changes with his veto power, requiring the museum to charge admission and to seek private funding. After the veto override failed Wednesday, lawmakers said what Rauner proposed exceeded his authority and they’re considering trying to pass a new bill.
