(Byron, IL) — The Byron Nuclear Plant will be receiving major upgrades. The U.S. Department of Energy agreed to loan up to five-billion-dollars to finance nuclear updates and modernization across Constellation Energy’s nuclear fleet in Illinois, Maryland and Pennsylvania. That includes the Byron Plant. The projects will add enough electricity to power more than 930-thousand homes, lowering costs and strengthening grid reliability in the three states.
