Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel is making it clear once again—there is no information on a Data Center for Vandalia and there is certainly no deal in place on one, either.
A social media rumor made the rounds earlier this week. Long story short, the post said a Data Center deal was in place for Vandalia with mentions of ties to Troy, Illinois and a data center and also ties to tax breaks and other such incentives. Mayor Knebel says he has made it his policy not to respond to social media posts. But, I-70 Media asked him the question during this week’s podcast “Talking about Vandalia.” Mayor Knebel says he is disappointed that more folks don’t do more of a vetting process when reading such posts.
Mayor Knebel says he has been very clear and transparent about data centers in the months since an individual came to speak with the Vandalia Economic Development Committee back in January. He did also point out the social media post did contain a lot of misinformation.
To reiterate, Mayor Knebel says there is certainly no deal in place at this time for a data center in Vandalia. And, if talk did come up about one, the public would be involved in that process.
