The Vandalia Police Department is freshening up their squad vehicles with 2 new ones being purchased.
At the Monday night Vandalia City Council meeting, approval was reached for the purchase of two vehicles—a Dodge Ram 2500 Truck for $48,411 and a Durango AWD 6 Cylinder for $42,104–both from Hosick Motors in Vandalia. Police Chief Jeff Ray acknowledged the Ram 1500 was a little over $600 cheaper but he wanted to go with the 2500 because he said it is “pursuit rated.” Chief Ray also did point out he got bids on the new vehicles from both Hosick Motors and Hecht Chevrolet. The two vehicle approvals were made unanimously by the Vandalia City Council. Mayor Doug Knebel pointed out both purchases were in the Police Department’s budget and actually came in a little below what was estimated in the budget for the purchase.
