There is someone interested in opening a grocery store in the former Kroger building in Vandalia. And, the City of Vandalia will be attempting to land a grant to help make that happen.
During Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Economic Development Director Amber Daulbaugh gave the City Council what update she is able to give at this time, promising much more information to come at their November 2nd meeting.
Mayor Doug Knebel told the City Council this matter has been in the works for a long time and there is now the opportunity for funding through this grant. He acknowledges there are a lot of details to still work out, but says this would be a public/private partnership, which he says they believe positions the city well in the eyes of the state. He says this does all go back to their visit earlier this year with Deputy Governor Andy Manar and says this could work out to be a real win for the city. Mayor Knebel adds the grant is a competitive one but they do believe the way this is being structured puts them in a position to be successful. He added much more information would come out at the November 2nd meeting.
