The Illinois General Assembly has a new legislative watchdog after months of lawmaker ethics issues have been brought to light and the former Springfield investigator resigned.
A former complainant told The Center Square he’s not convinced a change in who runs the office will make a difference.
In September, former Legislative Inspector General Michael McCuskey announced his resignation following criticism of his investigative practices.
In an introductory video on the state investigator’s website, Acting LIG David Risley explained how he wants to differ from his predecessors.
Michael Martin, a former speaker’s office staffer and legislative coordinator for multiple lawmakers, filed a complaint listing multiple lawmakers for varying degrees of mistreatment and over the termination of his employment in 2025.
He was denied a full investigation. Martin also made recommendations for the LIG office.
Martin said he plans to re-file his complaint.
