(Springfield, IL) — Illinois is coming off a record breaking day of warm weather. The National Weather Service says Springfield set a record high of 91-degrees yesterday for October 12th. Rockford broke a record with a high of 88-degrees. The Quad Cities also experienced record-breaking warmth, reaching 88-degrees in Moline.
As for our area, we are expecting to get well above 90 degrees today. That will extend our record of the longest period of time during one year with 90 degree days. The National Weather Service in St. Louis says we first hit 90 degrees this year on March 22nd. And, hitting 90 degrees today would give us 203 days between first and last 90 degree days. That shatters the old record of 189 days back in 1950.
