The first of a series of five planning or “rural mapping” sessions was hosted by the Vandalia Civic Advancement Association at the Fayette County YMCA on Wednesday night and a large number of community members were on hand to take part in the session. The Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University is facilitating the mapping process and working with the VCAA. Looking at the turnout for the first session, Ben Frazier of the VCAA says he is pleased as they had a good cross section of community members on hand to participate.
The nearly three hour session featured several exercises along with the presentation by IIRA and there were many similar ideas brought forward and also some new and different views shared amongst the group.
The sessions will continue for the next four coming Wednesdays at the YMCA and more information on the rural mapping process or initiative can be found on the Vandalia Civic Advancement Association’s website at https://vandaliacivicadvancement.com/initiatives/rural-mapping.
