Illinois U.S. Rep. Mary Miller says her newly-introduced legislation will stop bureaucrats from using taxpayer-funded child welfare systems to tear children away from families.
Miller introduced the Yaeli Martinez Child Protection Act on Monday.
The measure bars federally funded state child welfare systems from removing children from fit parents simply because the parents affirm their child’s biological sex.
Independent Women Senior Legal Counsel Beth Parlato said Congress provides substantial funding for state child welfare programs.
The bill is named for a California teen who was separated from her mother over a gender identity dispute, spent several years in state care and died by suicide in 2019.
