Early voting is underway in the State of Illinois. And, there is a full slate of statewide, congressional and legislative seats on the ballot.
The race that has certainly drawn the most attention when it comes to statewide is the Governor’s race, where Democrat J.B. Pritzker is running for a 3rd term and is again challenged by Republican Darren Bailey. Collin Corbett is the Independent candidate on the ballot for Governor. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is retiring after serving 5 terms in the Senate. Looking to replace him is Democrat and current Lieutenant Governor Julianna Stratton and Republican Don Tracy. Whitfield Harrington, Junior is the American Center Party candidate. For State Comptroller, Democrat Susana Mendoza is not seeking another term. Running for her seat are Republican Bryan Drew and Democrat Margaret Croke. Democrat State Treasurer Michael Frerichs is running for another term and is challenged by Republican Max Solomon. Attorney General Democrat Kwame Raoul is running for another term and is challenged by Republican Robert Fioretti. And, although he has also announced he is running for Mayor of Chicago, Democrat Alexi Giannoulias is running for another term as Secretary of State and is challenged by Republican Diane Harris.
For Congress, Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller is running for another term in the 15th District. Miller is challenged by Democrat Jennifer Todd. And, for 110th State Representative, Republican Blaine Wilhour is seeking another term. He is unopposed in the November General Election.
For Fayette County, early voting runs until November 2nd (the day before Election Day). The early voting will be conducted at the Fayette County Courthouse at 221 S. 7th Street in Vandalia Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm and on Saturday, October 31st from 8 am to 12 pm. They will be closed for Columbus Day on Monday, October 12th.
