The work to come to a solution concerning siltation at Vandalia Lake will continue after the Vandalia City Council voted to reject all bids it received for the project and to re-advertise to seek new bids. During his monthly engineer’s report, Lee Beckman of Milano & Grunloh Engineering told council members that the bids they received and opened recently came in quite a bit higher than expected.
Mayor Doug Knebel expanded on that saying the low bid for silt removal came in three times higher than expected.
Beckman says one worry brought up from a contractor during the bid process concerned the removal of silt from under property owner’s docks as a bid for that came in at $16,000 per dock.
Following discussion, the council unanimously voted 8-0 to reject all bids and they will re-advertise for bids for the project with it agreed that they try to expand their reach with the advertising to try and receive a larger number of bids.
