The Fayette County Board’s monthly Finance Meeting saw very brief discussion and little action taken to move to the full board as part of its monthly meeting on Tuesday night. The committee took action on just one item as they approved to forward on an Ordinance documenting tax sale purchase and sale by the county. County Administrator Dustin Harmon from Bellwether explained that the state had made a change to legislation with tax sales because tax buyers had been profiting off of homeowners’ equity and the tax payer was not being “made whole” for the equity that they owned which led to many lawsuits in the state. With the new change, the county will not take on liability and it will also help the homeowner with a lower rate.
And Fayette County Treasurer Michelle Hagy says the change will also save money for tax payers in the county who may become delinquent with taxes.
The Ordinance was approved by a vote of 8-0 and will now go on to the full county board this month for final approval.
Also at the meeting, the committee tabled their other item for discussion which was set to be an update on the projected EAV from the Supervisor of Assessments.
