Fierce debate over data centers broke out at a public forum in Decatur this week.
The Citizen’s Voluntary Advisory Committee on Data Centers held the event at the Decatur Civic Center on Monday night.
When people in the audience began shouting, committee chairman Jerry Stocks said the protesters did not understand enough to engage in intelligent debate.
The committee report said reasonable data center development would benefit Macon County residents.
Independent Illinois U.S. Senate candidate Whitfield Harrington, Jr. said communities should not open the floodgate just to get quick cash from developers.
President Donald Trump said in a social media post that communities should let data reign if they want to be successful and rich.
