City of Vandalia takes steps for new Racetrac Travel Center to keep moving forward

The City of Vandalia continues to take steps to help the new Racetrac Travel Center to keep moving forward to locating here.

At a special meeting on Monday night, the Vandalia City Council acted on two issues that helped with the process.  Speaking on our podcast “Talking About Vandalia,” Mayor Doug Knebel talks about the first matter they dealt with.

And, Mayor Knebel acknowledges that this process does take a long time.

The second matter was to help Racetrac with signage.  Mayor Knebel says the Illinois Department of Transportation would not allow Racetrac to place a sign along the interstate in a certain location because that spot was not actually part of the city when the Eisenhower Interstate System went through the area.  So, the City of Vandalia gave approval for a very tall sign–expected to be about 200 feet–to be located on Racetrac’s property. Racetrac is looking to locate their travel center on the property of the former Wal-Mart location.
