A recently-signed piece of state legislation is raising concerns about workers’ compensation costs and liabilities for employers.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed Illinois House Bill 5228 on Friday, August 7th.
Phil Melin is executive director of Illinois Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse.
Melin said the surcharge would be $7 million total, with more profitable companies paying a higher portion of the total.
Melin said charging a profit penalty could disincentivize companies from doing business in Illinois.
