
The Vandalia Fire Department handled a fire caused by a lightning strike on Thursday morning.
The Vandalia Fire Department was called out to the fire at 7:41 on Thursday morning to the 500 block of South 7th Street that was said to have been caused by a lightning strike. Vandalia Fire Chief Zac Stombaugh said they found the house had been hit by lightning at the top of the chimney. He says the house had some minor damage from the strike and some light smoke in the basement of the residence. Chief Stombaugh says nothing further was found. He adds that 8 firefighters were on the scene for about 20 minutes and they were assisted on scene by the Vandalia Police Department and RuralMed EMS.
