Gov. J.B. Pritzker says an upcoming sales tax holiday on certain purchases will lower costs.
During the ten-day period starting on Friday, August 7, consumers can purchase qualified clothing and school-related items with a five-percent reduction in the state’s portion of sales tax due.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker spoke in Palatine on Monday and said he and the General Assembly prioritized lowering costs.
Tax Foundation Vice President of State Tax Policy Katherine Loughead said sales tax holidays are an inefficient way to offer relief.
Loughead said it would be better for Illinois to have a lower sales-tax rate year round.
