A northern Illinois man died in Fayette County on Wednesday evening from what is believed to have been a self inflicted gunshot wound. And, that same man was reportedly a suspect in two murders in Harvey, Illinois.
In his report on the incident, Fayette County Coroner Dave Harris says he was called out to 140 John Deere Road in Farina on Wednesday evening about 7:13 pm in regards to an apparent self inflicted gunshot by an individual. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy on the scene says they arrived earlier to find a vehicle with all doors and windows locked and the vehicle still running. And, they observed a black male in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with a pistol lying in his lap. After further investigation, Coroner Harris says the man was positively identified as 40 year old Antwan D. Johnson, with his driver’s license giving an address in South Holland, Illinois. Harris later learned that Johnson had recently been residing at an address in Chicago. Coroner Harris says he pronounced Johnson dead at 7:55 pm.
Meanwhile, Coroner Harris later reported he had heard from authorities in Harvey, Illinois, where a man and woman were found dead. And, that Johnson was a suspect in those murders. An autopsy for Johnson will be conducted today. Coroner Harris says they were assisted in the investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and Farina First Responders.
