Extreme Heat & Humidity Continues Today–Chance of Severe Storms this Afternoon

The extreme heat and humidity stays with us today.

We do have a chance of showers and storms this afternoon late, but we’ll otherwise see mostly sunny skies today with a high of 95 and heat index values as high as 113 for today.  An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 9 pm.

We also have a chance of a severe storms for this afternoon and this evening.  The National Weather Service in St. Louis says there is a level 2 risk for severe thunderstorms across much of central and south central Illinois this afternoon and this evening.  Damaging wind in excess of 60 miles per hour is the primary threat with any storms that would develop today.
