(Springfield, IL) — Gambling is big business in the state. According to tax filings, Illinois residents spent more than seven-point-seven billion dollars gambling in the state last year. Of that, the state received more than two-point-six billion dollars in gambling tax revenue that went to help balance Illinois’ budget. Still, some concerns are being raised over the impact it’s having on residents, as less than point-one percent of the revenue generated from gambling was reinvested in programs that help treat gambling addiction.
