We continue to hear today from Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel as we talk about local gas prices and often the disparity between gas prices here and especially in Effingham.
Speaking on our podcast “Talking About Vandalia,” Mayor Knebel says he certainly understands that prices will be significantly cheaper at times in Effingham and he did note that is certainly a concern. But, he does say there are many factors to weigh if you are just traveling to get cheaper gas.
And, he adds that the local convenience store operators are pleased with their business in Vandalia and the additional of a new truck stop in the former Wal-Mart property could potentially help out on the competition front.
Prices in Vandalia did jump up heading into the weekend and other communities have not taken that jump as of this time. According to www.gasbuddy.com, gas prices in Vandalia range from $4.11 to $4.17 per gallon. Effingham is the area’s cheapest ranging from $3.49 to $3.65 per gallon. Pana and Altamont were both at $3.94 per gallon. The cheapest gas in the state, according to Gasbuddy, is $3.39 per gallon in Calumet City.
