For a long time now, folks have talked about the big difference in gas prices between just about every town around the area compared to Effingham. But, in a summer when prices have spiked at times to nearly $5 per gallon it has become even more noticeable.
As of Thursday afternoon, Gasbuddy.com listed the best gas price in Vandalia at $3.87 per gallon, while the best price in Effingham was $3.49 per gallon—a difference of 38 cents per gallon.
Talking on our podcast “Talking about Vandalia,” Mayor Doug Knebel says it is a concern and it does seem to be driven by a competitive market in Effingham.
As has been discussed in the past, the City doesn’t have any type of say or influence in any way over gas prices. We will hear more from Mayor Knebel on the matter coming up on Monday.
