(Chicago, IL) — Illinois is providing more support to individuals who were wrongfully imprisoned in the state. Governor Pritzker signed the Certificate of Innocence Act. The measure amends the Court of Claims Act, which allows those who have been unjustly incarcerated to bring a claim for time served in prison and receive financial compensation from the State. The new law increases the maximum amount awarded for claims and expands the eligibility provisions for who can file a claim.
