(Collinsville, IL) — Authorities are investigating after an infant was abandoned in the parking lot of a historic Illinois tourist site. The Collinsville Police Department said Friday it believes the child’s parents have left the country. Police responded to the Cahokia Mounds parking lot on June 7th after reports of an abandoned newborn left in a car seat. The infant was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and later placed in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. The department said investigators have identified both parents, but no charges have been filed.
