
After seeing a round of pretty heavy rain and thunderstorms last night, we are back at it this morning and expecting more during the day today. And, the threat of severe weather remains this afternoon and this evening.
Our forecast for today says showers and storms are likely with a high of 81. Then, a chance of showers and storms for tonight with a low of 67. The chance of rain looks to leave the area after that, leaving us with a sunny and dry Sunday.
In their latest weather briefing, the National Weather Service in St. Louis says thunderstorms are expected across the area mainly this afternoon and evening. There is a risk for isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms mainly between 3 pm and 8 pm today. Our area is under the Marginal Risk for a severe storm (which is Level 1–the lowest level) while off to our southwest is under the Slight Risk (Level 2) for severe storms. The NWS adds that damaging winds are the primary hazard with any thunderstorm that becomes severe, with a very low, secondary threat of large hail and tornadoes. Areas to our south and southwest will likely see more flash flooding and flooding today. Areas throughout deep southern Illinois have seen such flooding over the past few days, with massive flooding in different areas of southeast Missouri.
