OLNEY – After an investigation at the request of the Olney Police Department (OPD) and Richland County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), the Illinois State Police arrested 25-year-old Dylan M. Jones of OLNEY, IL in connection with a double homicide.
On July 7, 2026, at approximately 3:11 p.m., OPD and RCSO officers responded to two homes in the 400 block of East Monroe Street in Olney. Officers found two deceased individuals in separate homes, 52-year-old John D. Jones Jr., and 73-year-old Deborah J. Jones. The initial investigation indicates Dylan Jones struck John Jones in the head with a sharp-edged instrument and stabbed Deborah Jones with a knife. The coroner is conducting medical examinations to determine official causes of death. The Richland County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Dylan Jones with six counts of First Degree Murder.
