Gov. J.B. Pritzker says Illinois does not need semiautomatic weapons.
The governor spoke at a cannabis dispensary in Chicago on Thursday, two days after the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a case challenging Cook County’s ban on purchases of semiautomatic weapons.
Pritzker said Illinois banned the weapons statewide for a reason.
Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb said on “The States” with Greg Bishop it’s long overdue for the case to be heard.
Cook County’s ban has been in place since 1993. Illinois implemented a statewide ban in 2023.
