(Chicago, IL) — Governor Pritzker is reacting to the resignation of state Representative Harry Benton. The Plainfield Democrat reportedly stepped down last week over unspecified sexual harassment allegations revealed in a report from the Legislative Inspector General. Pritzker believes Benton made the right decision, saying one of the possible reasons he chose to resign is so the report can’t be released. Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch said he requested Benton’s resignation immediately after receiving the report. In his resignation letter, the two-term representative said this matter has placed tremendous strain on his family and asked that their privacy be honored.
