A state-mandated driving test no longer applies to Illinoisans between the ages of 79 and 86.
Among the new state laws taking effect on July 1st is the Road Safety and Fairness Act.
State Senator Ram Villivalam sponsored the legislation that still requires drivers age 79 through 86 to renew their licenses in person and pass a vision screening.
Illinois drivers age 87 and up are still required to pass a vision test and behind-the-wheel driving test every year.
House Bill 1226 passed both chambers of the legislature unanimously in the spring of 2025.
