(Springfield, IL) — Drivers are urged to be safe on the roadways on July 4th. The Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and local law enforcement say there will be zero tolerance for those driving impaired by alcohol, cannabis or other drugs. IDOT says from July 3rd through July 6th last year, there were 17 deadly crashes in Illinois resulting in 18 deaths. Four of the deadly crashes involved drivers who had been drinking.
