(Springfield, IL) — Illinois officials are urging residents to take precautions as a heat wave hits the state. Temps are jumping into the 90s, with heat index values reaching the triple-digits. Residents should check on family, friends, and neighbors who may be vulnerable. Everyone should drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol, apply sunscreen every two hours, wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned locations and limit outdoor activity.
