Multiple rounds of severe storms and heavy rains struck Fayette County for several hours on Sunday afternoon and evening.
The storms started rolling in during the 1 pm hour on Sunday afternoon and continued with some breaks here and there for the next several hours. They led to multiple Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings and also one spotter seeing a tornado in the Pittsburg and Shobonier areas.
Fayette County Emergency Management Agency Director Ryan Scott reports damage and other issues—
Scott says that a couple of cabins received minor damage from limbs and a tree coming down. He adds power lines in that area were also down. Flooding caused basements to flood in St. Peter and also other parts of the county. Scott also reports that two cars were stuck in flood water at 2400 Avenue and 300 Street–both vehicles were confirmed to be unoccupied. Ramsey experienced standing water in the area of 4th and Tower Street. Scott says that one family was displaced in last night’s storms and he has the Red Cross assisting them at this time.
Meanwhile, Scott says that he did see a tornado touch down, but it would have been on the Marion County side of the county line. Scott says he was at 2100 St and 900 Ave when he spotted it and it was well south of 700 Ave where he estimated it to be.
Scott says that Farina Fire Department and EMS, Rural Med, St. Peter Fire Department, St. Elmo Fire Department, Ramsey Fire Department, Fayette County EMA and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office all took weather related calls and there were no reports of any injuries.
