During their final meeting of Fiscal Year 2026, the Vandalia School Board approved its amended budget for the fiscal year as part of its June meeting on Thursday evening. As the school district now sees the full picture of where the expenditures stand compared to the revenues for the year, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garrison says the district and school board are pleased with where they are fiscally which has allowed them to be able to lower the tax rate among other things.
As Garrison says, they now will wait to see what state funding will look like in August as they are in the early stages of the next fiscal year. As they look ahead, one area looked at is special education as a large part of that funding, such as Title funds, come from the federal level who just this week announced oversight of special education would shift from the Department of Education to the Department of Health and Human Services. Garrison says at this point they are being told the following Fiscal Year 2028 is where changes could be seen as the state has already received the funding for the coming Fiscal Year 2027.
As for state funding, Garrison says the state did pass the budget that includes $350 million for new tier funding for the evidence based funding formula for schools. They’ll know more about that in the coming months.
