A state rep has filed new legislation aimed at keeping the Chicago Bears in Illinois, but Gov. J.B. Pritzker says the Bears have to decide what they want first.
State Rep. Martin McLaughlin said House Bill 5797 is Arlington Heights-specific and includes a negotiated property tax up front.
McLaughlin said a third-party auditor would review taxing bodies and the Bears to prevent cost shifting.
When asked about McLaughlin’s proposal on Tuesday, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said the Bears need to express what they want in two bills that passed separately in the House and the Senate.
Illinois House Speaker Chris Welch said he thinks the Bears want to be in Illinois.
