(Springfield, IL) — Governor Pritzker is praising new legislation that aims to keep patient medical records related to abortion care in Illinois private. The state General Assembly approved the Reproductive Health Records Privacy Act. The bill would require health information exchanges to limit user access to systems containing abortion-related medical information and refrain from sharing data across state lines except if the disclosure is for technical support, quality assurance or billing purposes, or the patient consents to sharing their data. Pritzker says the new legislation helps patients retain full control over their private health information and that he looks forward to signing it into law.
