(Winnebago Co., IL) — The Illinois Department of Public Health is investigating a potential Hantavirus case in an Illinois resident. The resident lives in Winnebago County and isn’t linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship outbreak. The CDC is conducting additional testing to confirm the resident is positive for Hantavirus. Excluding this latest possible case, Illinois has had seven positive cases of Hantavirus since 1993, most recently in March 2025.
