Move-in day for the Fayette County Sheriff and the Vandalia Police Department dispatchers to the new 911 Communications Center is now right around the corner as the Fayette County Board heard on Thursday night. Fayette County EMA Director Ryan Scott and Fayette County Sheriff Ronnie Stevens both gave brief updates on the new building that will combine the dispatchers from the two departments into one area. After the meeting, Stevens said this center combining the communications to one area will help them better serve the county’s residents.
With the newly renovated building and modernization of the systems, it’s a positive move for the departments.
The timeline right now is for Vandalia Police to begin moving into the new building early next week and then the Sheriff’s Office will follow. Once open, residents wanting to make police reports to the VPD or the Sheriff’s Office or seek other services will enter the east door of the building that used to be the front door area of the library that was previously housed in the building.
