When asked if there was anything he was considering to ease the burden for Illinoisans early Tuesday, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he is looking into ways of doing so, but stopped short of committing to a suspension of the state’s motor fuel tax.
Republicans lawmakers in the general assembly called on Democrats to suspend the tax for a 60-day period late last week. The tax brought in $3 billion for the state in 2025, revenue the state exclusively uses for construction and maintenance costs tied to transportation.
