Gloria Beth Dwyer, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday March 22nd at UnityPoint St. Lukes Hospital Hospice Care in the presence of her family.
Gloria was born on February 16th, 1954, as Gloria Beth Reiss to Walter and Irma Reiss, Brownstown, Illinois.
She had two sons, Jon Sefton and Jason Dwyer. She lived her life happily caring for her family, her animals, and her garden. She achieved a Horticulture Science AAS degree from Kirkwood Community College.
Over the years she lived in Illinois, Oregon, Washington, Florida, Wisconsin, Colorado, Louisiana, California, and Iowa. A lifelong Cubs fan, she enjoyed sports of all types. She loved her dogs and tending to her garden, which in its prime was a sight to behold, the details of every bulb and seedling diligently recorded so she could maintain its splendor throughout the years and offer its comforts to the wild animals who often visited. She loved nature, watching the birds who had numerous feeders throughout the garden, and especially her family, including her four-legged kids. Though stricken by disease, she maintained her home to the end, in which she resided for over the last 35 years. She loved and was loved and will always remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Survivors include her siblings Ken Reiss, Dorothy Hamilton (Steve Hamilton), and Lana Smith (Stan Smith); her sons Jon Sefton (Stacie Sefton) and Jason Dwyer; her grandchildren Brittany Gabhart (Michael Gabhart) and Hannah Scearce (JP Scearce); and her great grandchildren Liam and Serena Gabhart.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Walter and Irma Reiss, and her sister-in-law Patricia Reiss.
