A St. Elmo man is facing four new Felony counts in Fayette County Court, following his arrest this past weekend.
51 year old Curtis D. Jennings is facing two drug charges—One is Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver 5 to 15 grams of Methamphetamine, which is a Class 1 Felony. He also faces a charge of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine of 5 to 15 grams, which is a Class 2 Felony.
Jennings is also facing a charge of Theft of between $10,000 and $100,000, which is a Class 2 Felony. Information on the charge says Jennings is alleged to have stolen copper wire from Petco Petroleum in excess of $10,000. Jennings also faces a Class 3 Felony for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Information on the charge states that Jennings is alleged to have possessed ammunition and Jennings had previously been convicted of a Felony in Effingham County in 2019.
In Fayette County Court on Monday, the court found that the state had met their burden that Jennings had committed a detainable offense. The court found that due to Jennings’ behavior and the charges against him that he did pose a threat to the public. The court also stated that Jennings is currently on pre-trial release for two other Felonies and that no condition or combination of conditions will mitigate the threat posed by Jennings.
Jennings will remain held in the Fayette County Jail. He will make a pre-trial appearance on April 7th at 9 am.
