Parking and Gallatin Street was a big topic of Monday’s City of Vandalia Streets Committee. The Committee is good with moving forward with one change and another could potentially be on the way.
During Monday’s meeting the Streets Committee agreed to clearly mark some areas along Gallatin Street as “No Parking.” The Committee is hopeful that improve issues individuals have pulling onto Gallatin Street from 4th Street and 6th Street.
Alderman Andy Lester also suggested another possible change to angled or “pull in” parking. And, Committee Chair Steve Barker said he’s heard from at least one business owner that would be in favor.
Barker thought that it might increase the total number of parking spots by a couple per block. Lester says he thinks it’s more parking friendly for the community and will encourage more individuals to park downtown. The City will check with the Illinois Department of Transportation to see if that would be a possibility on Gallatin Street.
