The City of Vandalia Streets Committee met before Monday’s full City Council meeting to discuss a few matters than have been brought up in the past few months.
One issue was the possibility of adding additional stop intersections along Gallatin Street. One business owner came before the City Council and spoke of drivers going above the speed limit on Gallatin Street and requested adding more stop intersections to go along with Gallatin & 5th Street. Alderman Steve Barker, who is the head of the Streets Committee, says he has been reading studies conducted by Universities and Cities and found that adding additional stop intersections wouldn’t eliminate the issue.
Another concern is visibility when pulling onto Gallatin Street. One of the issues there is individuals are parking in spots that are not actually parking spots. So, Barker says they would look to have those areas marked as “No Parking” and to enforce the matter going forward. There was discussion of using white paint for putting “No Parking” on the spots. But, Mayor Doug Knebel and Police Chief Jeff Ray both spoke of wanting to make sure the spots are well marked to make sure everyone understands there’s no parking in those areas.
It was decided to go with the yellow hash lines in the spots to make sure they are visible that there is no parking in these spots.
Meanwhile, the Streets Committee also touched on a few other topics and we’ll talk more about those coming up tomorrow.
