Strong to severe storms rolled through Fayette County on Sunday afternoon and evening, leaving behind very strong winds and much colder temperatures.
The storms were in front of a cold front that took temperatures from highs in the upper 60’s to lower 70’s on Sunday afternoon all the way down to lows in the teens on Sunday night/this morning.
The entire area was under a Tornado Watch for an extended period of time. The line of storms led to two Severe Thunderstorms Warnings for southern and southeastern Fayette County with the potential for 60 mph winds and small hail in the storms. The National Weather Service in St. Louis also reported tree damage near Pittsburg in Fayette County as observed by trained spotters.
Once the storms rolled through, it led to the major shift in wind from the the northwest that brought an end to our week-long above average temperatures over the area.
