The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with a burglary, vehicle theft and multiple traffic crashes in rural Ramsey.
In a report from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, it states that on December 14th at 10:40 pm, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident in rural Ramsey to report an unknown male had entered their truck that was parked outside their residence. As the call progressed, the individual reported the unknown male had entered their attached garage and stole a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder that was located within the garage. The individual reported the vehicle was fleeing to the north on 1100 Street, north of 2900 Avenue, in rural Ramsey. Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene and observed a 2012 Chevrolet Impala crashed into a guardrail just south of the alleged victim’s address. Deputies were able to locate a form of identification of a possible suspect inside the Impala. And, shortly after discovery of the crashed vehicle, the stolen Nissan was located to the east of 1100 Street on 3000 Avenue as it was crashed in a ditch.
At 2:41 am, Deputies and members of the Ramsey Fire Protection District utilized thermal cameras and located a female in a fence row not far from the original crash scene and the female was said to be suffering from hypothermia. The female was transported by Rural Med EMS to Fayette County Hospital.
At 5:38 am, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident about 1 mile north of the crashed Nissan. The residence reported that a male had just shown up to their residence. The male stated he and his girlfriend were in an accident and his girlfriend had walked away from him.
At 6:12 am, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies–assisted by a drone from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office–located a male identified as 34 year old Cole Y. Shoraga allegedly hiding under a blanket in the woods. Shoraga was placed under arrest. Shoraga is facing multiple charges including pending charges for residential burglary, burglary and motor vehicle theft.
