The Fayette County Coroner has made a positive identification of a man that was found dead under the Kaskaskia River Bridge on Tuesday of this week.
Coroner Dave Harris reports the individual was identified as 66 year old Jeffrey C. Oller. Harris says that Oller was originally from Kentucky and he was positively identified by his younger brother on Wednesday afternoon.
In an earlier release, Coroner Harris reported that on Tuesday afternoon he was contacted to respond to the Kaskaskia River bridge east of Vandalia on U.S. Route 40. A death was reported under the bridge in a so-called “encampment.” Coroner Harris says upon his arrival, he observed a white male deceased in his tent. The individual was pronounced dead at 2:51 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Oller’s body has been transported to Springfield for an autopsy. Coroner Harris says he was assisted at the scene by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Vandalia Police Department.
